“What stood out most about Mr. Irvine was his unique teaching style - he explained concepts intricately and in a way that was easy to understand, but always blended in humour to keep us engaged. It wasn’t just that he explained things well; his humour made the subject come alive, holding your attention and making the learning process smoother and more effective. It was this combination of clarity and lightheartedness that turned tough lessons into something you actually looked forward to"

"Mr. Irvine strikes a perfect balance between detail and simplicity. As a student, I greatly benefitted from his ability to condense complicated concepts into concise, easy-to-understand explanations without omitting key information. His teaching method makes challenging topics approachable while still retaining the depth needed for exam success."

“I still vividly remember our lesson on Theory of the Firm, where he introduced us to a fictional ice cream van named ‘Irvine’s Ices’. Using this example, he brought concepts like monopolistic competition, diminishing returns and economies of scale to life, making difficult and often heavy ideas easy to remember. His sharp sense of humour always kept us engaged in lessons. Feedback was always clear and actionable. He struck the perfect balance between acknowledging what you did well and offering practical advice on how to improve."

Mr Irvine was my Sixth Form Economics teacher - a few years ago now! His teaching style was perfect in helping the class get up to speed quickly with the subject. He broke down complex topics into smaller, more manageable elements which made it much easier to understand when putting things together. I would say what stood out the most was his ability to apply the teachings of the subject to a real-world context which provided a more in-depth understanding of how the topics we learnt fitted into society as a whole, not solely to pass an exam. I couldn't recommend his teaching more to anyone studying Economics!"
